PANGenS

Kristin testmethode

Using genome sequencing to understand disease aetiology, dynamics of disease transmission, and the evolution of drug-resistant pathogens.

The EDCTP selected the PANGenS (Pan-Africa network for genomic surveillance of poverty related diseases and emerging pathogens) project for grant preparation in December 2022. KNCV is one of the 19 partners in the project that will be led by the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research at the University of Ghana. The main aim of the PANGenS project is to study the genomic epidemiology of TB, malaria, and emerging and re-emerging pathogens in Africa, to better understand disease aetiology, dynamics of disease transmission, and the evolution of drug-resistant pathogens. The project also aims to increase Africa’s capacity in bioinformatics, genomics, genomics data management, biobanking, and promote data sharing.

KNCV has been fighting TB since its establishment in 1903. Over the past 120 years, the organization has acquired indispensable knowledge and experience in the field of effective TB prevention and care, resulting in pre-elimination in the Netherlands and significant contributions to global evidence generation, policy development and TB program implementation worldwide.
